Man, Is Rove A Jackass
Some Republicans bemoaned an apparent GOP curse when it comes to summer storms and noted the contrast between the approach of Gustav and the sunny weather in Denver for the Democrats. “The Republicans can’t seem to catch a break when it comes to August and when it comes to the weather,” said Karl Rove, a former Bush adviser, on Fox News yesterday.
Yes, Karl, that’s exactly what the people of New Orleans are thinking as well. Poor Republicans. These storms are so hard on them.

Glass Houses
From Teagan Goddard’s Political Wire:
“I think this President has shown a remarkable disrespect for his office, for the moral dimensions of leadership, for his friends, for his wife, for his precious daughter. It is breathtaking to me the level to which that disrespect has risen.”
– John Edwards, quoted by the Raleigh News & Observer in 1999, on Bill Clinton.
Noted without comment.
Looks Like McCain Is Starting To Figure This Thing Out
I’m voting for Obama. I know this is nonesense from McCain. But it is also perfect politics. It is exactly what he needs to keep repeating over and over between now and November if he wants to win. It’s clear and concise. Under the ‘If you tell a lie often enough….’ theory, he can get a broad enough spectrum of the electorate to believe this in order to push him over the top.
It’s time for Obama to hit back and hit harder than he has been. Obama needs a line this easy to remember and he needs to start putting the words “John McCain” and “George Bush” together in a sentence at every opportunity. “John McCain is for George Bush’s wars. John McCain is for George Bush’s horrendous fiscal policy. You’ve seen the damage George Bush has done to this country. Can we afford four more years of this?” For a bit of self-deprecating humor and a play on the “Yes we can!” mantra, get the crowd to chant “No we can’t!” in response.

In Which I Whine About Unfair Political Coverage
Is it really being overly sensitive to say that this woud be a much larger story if it were about Obama instead of McCain? I know the campaign is blaming the Secret Service, but I also know how little difference that would make to many if the situation were reversed. It would be more broadly covered in the press, with reporters asking “Is this more evidence of the aloofness of Barack Obama?”
That’s the way things roll though. No sense whining too much about it. The question is how to use it to advantage.

What Does This Have To Do With Britney and Paris?
Hey, look! An article that actually has to do with policy specifics — or, in John McCain’s case, the lack thereof.
McCain’s camp suffers from a paper gap
Of course, is it just me, or does the author of this article really seem to go way out of his way to try to give a ‘both sides of the argument’ sheen?
Yet Another Reason Not To Shop At Wal-Mart
From the WSJ:
Wal-Mart Warns of Democratic Win
Wal-Mart Stores Inc. is mobilizing its store managers and department supervisors around the country to warn that if Democrats win power in November, they’ll likely change federal law to make it easier for workers to unionize companies — including Wal-Mart.
This is just ridiculous. They just assume all their employees are morons. Hopefully Wal-Mart’s actions will piss off even right leaning employees just enough to get them to vote Democratic if only out of spite. Nobody likes their bosses trying to tell them how they should vote. It may not be illegal — at least the way Wal-Mart is going about it — but it’s damn unAmerican.
