Palin quotes from her interview with Blitzer:
However the campaign is over. That chapter is closed. Now is the time to move on and to, again, make sure that all of us are doing all that we can to progress this nation. … Now is the time to move forward together, start progressing America.
First of all, can you even use the word progress in that way?
On the potential bailout of the automakers:
Oh, that is the discussion of the day.
Yes. Yes it is. She then goes on to completely avoid giving an opinion, gets called on it by Blitzer and responds
Well, that — it’s in debate right now and I’m listening closely to the debate and there is a lot of information that even you and I certainly aren’t privy to, to understand all of the ramifications if federal government were going to step in and bail out.
But we do know that the auto industry is that important that certainly it needs to be considered. But, you know, I’m not going to ignore the debate again that I think needs to lead to the personal responsibility, the management decisions that have been made in some of these companies and corporations that have also led us to where we are.
So, she still offers no ideas or opinions on the subject and just does her best to dance around it. She’s not terribly mentally nimble though, so the dance is more reminiscent of Elaine from Seinfeld.
Moving on… She’s asked about another stimulus package “to help the struggling middle class.”
I do want to see the struggling middle class be the ones at the end of the day who are not stuck with the bills and stuck with the burdens. But I am not one, again, to believe that it should be just assumed that it’s taxpayer bailout that will be the solution to all of the problems, all of the financial challenges that our nation is facing.
Supportive of the $700 billion initial, now hearing more rumors, more speculation of even greater amounts being poured into that. There again, need more information but not being so enthused about a second, a third, a fourth stimulus package.
This is just complete gibberish. First off, she specifically says she doesn’t want the “middle class” to be stuck footing the bill for the bailouts. That’s nice. As a middle class guy myself, I can see the value in this. But who is supposed to pay for it then? The rich and the poor? The poor, by definition, don’t have the money to pay for it and Obama is already looking to return the tax system to a more progressive state. She called that socialism and Marxism during the election. Has she changed her mind?
As for the rest of her response, there’s not one complete sentence in the bunch. It’s like a parody of the way Bush the Elder spoke. SNL will need to bring back Dana Carvey to help Tina Fey handle the Palin duties.
On what Bush should do during his remaining time in office:
He is already doing that. And that is reaching out to Barack Obama and to both potential new cabinet members also, and those who we know will be in the cabinet, reaching out to them.
And not being one to stay away, to shy away from addressing the challenges that we have today, working with the new administration and start ushering in some solutions. So I appreciate that he has already done that.
It’s nice that she believes Bush is reaching out to “both potential new cabinet members also, and those who we know will be in the cabinet,” although I must admit I wasn’t aware we knew that yet. Palin and Bush must have the inside line.
She continued:
And that bodes well for our president also. And other things also that bode well for President Bush and keeping our country safe for the last seven years with no new attack on the homeland, those things that I think we cannot lose sight of, that President Bush has allowed for progress in those areas in our nation. You know, I want to do a shout out to our president and thank him for that.
Hey, more gibberish plus a shoutout! Hurray! She’s down with the kids and their shoutouts. *wink* This country can never get enough shoutouts from its major political figures. Raise the roof, baby, she’s gettin’ jiggy all up in here!
And here was a fun little exchange when she was asked about Ted Stevens:
PALIN: Well, and after the four counts, the felony counts, in the …
BLITZER: Seven.
PALIN: Seven. Yeah. After they came back.
Huh? Shouldn’t she have some knowledge of this? Four? C’mon, it’s the most important political situation in Alaska at the moment. She didn’t appear to realize that Stevens hasn’t won the election yet, either. Blitzer had to point that out to her. Seriously, her response to Blitzer on the Stevens situation suggests she still has no interest in paying attention to anything greater than her (greater in the sense of larger, not better).
This part just made me laugh. I really can’t add anything to it:
BLITZER: You have five children.
PALIN: Yes!
BLITZER: Michelle Obama and Barack Obama, they have two sweet little adorable girls.
PALIN: Sweet!
BLITZER: As you know.
Do you have any advice for Michelle Obama right now …
PALIN: Aww …
And then she finishes the interview with this gem:
PALIN: Thank you, Wolf. Appreciate you.
Appreciate you? W.T.F. is that? Also, I would also like to know where this verbal tic of her’s came from where she has to say ‘also’ at least once every three or four sentences. Also, my favorite is also when she uses ‘also’ as a stand-alone sentence. That’s awesome! (I’m noticing that my switching back and forth between sarcasm and condescension probably makes my writing more confusing, does it? I’ll have to work on that…)
So…Ladies and gentleman, there you have your possible 2012 Republican candidate for President. Good luck with that Barack. I don’t know how you respond to such incoherence in a Presidential debate.
